Former President Gerald Ford died yesterday, Tues., Dec. 26, at the age of 93.
First Lady Betty Ford said her late husband was a “beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.” Her statement doesn’t list a cause of death for the former president or where he died but Ford had battled pneumonia in January and underwent two heart treatments in August.
He was the longest living president, followed by Ronald Reagan, who also died at 93. Ford was hand picked by Richard Nixon after his Watergate scandal forced him to resign. He had never run on a national ticket. A month later Ford pardoned Nixon for all crimes, many say this led to him not being re-elected.
