Two Troopers Are Injured After a Chase

Another accident has occured involving KSP in Pike County.

Since Dec. 20, two Kentucky State Troopers from the Pikeville Post have died and one has been injured. Now, two more have been hurt in a chase on Kentucky 1426.

A state police officer and a vehicle enforcement officer opened fire on John Keen of Elkhorn City last night. The officers were pursuing Keen after an armed robbery.

The chase ended when officers released a tire deflation device on U.S. 119 and US 23.

Keen was killed and the two officers suffered minor injuries.

Trooper Chris Phillips and Vehicle Enforcement Officer Keith Justice fired on Keen, when he refused to comply with police orders and reached for a gun.

The car was driven by Misty Damron of Elkhorn City, who surrendered.

Phillips was treated for minor lacerations of the forearm. Trooper Alfred Bunch was treated for a minor eye injury.

Phillips was placed on administrative duty while the shooting is investigated.
