A 20-year-old Bowling Green man has been charged with 2nd degree manslaughter in the death of a 19-year-old Scottsville resident.

"We recieved a call of a shooting on the seven thousand block of Morgantown Road," says Trooper Charles Swiney of Kentucky State Police. "Upon further investigation, it was 19-year-old and 20-year-old adults acting irresponsibly and for whatever reason, one of them had a gun in his hand and accidently shot the other in the head, resulting in his death."

Kentucky State Police allege 20-year-old Jacob Whitaker accidently shot 19-year-old Justin Kropp of Scottsville at Whitaker's Bowling Green home just after eleven Wednesday night.

"Evidently, they didn't have any relationship, even as friends," Trooper Swiney explains. "Acquaintences would stretch it, but evidently, they came across each other at this residence, and whatever was going on resulted in one getting shot by the other. I don't know if alcohol was a factor in this incident or what exactly was going on, if they were having a party or just hanging out."

2nd degree manslaughter is defined as the unlawful killing of a human being without the intent to kill.

Trooper Swiney says that charge could change.

"There's still an investigation going on," he says. "Depending on what the detectives find, it could be enhanced."

Whitaker is now being held in the Warren County Regional Jail on a $250,000 bond.
