Last year on August 13, the congregation of Mount Pleasant Church of Christ lost their building in a fire.
The fire was ruled as arson, and the church immediately began plans to rebuild.
We joined them for their first service in their new building.
"Live for Jesus, live for Jesus," sang the congregation Sunday morning. "Give him all thou hast to give."
A morning of worship in a home they can call their own.
"Had a two level in our previous building," said W. Tom Hall, Evangelist at the church. "This is all on one level. It makes it easier and handicap accessible. We were able to build an education wing on one side, a multi-purpose room on the other side, and then straight inside, the auditorium."
A large difference in the new building is the location, but they say that isn't a problem.
"The new property, it's a different location," said Hall. "We've been at the same location for 171 years. Now, we're seven-tenths of a mile back this side of town, and we're just proud to be here."
"Some of them worked full-time, almost 40 hours a week to get it done," said Greg Isenberg, an Elder at the church. "We had a lot of donations from the community, other denominations, and we had a lot of people that assisted in a lot of different ways that are not directly linked to this congregations."
They say their first service was a huge blessing with three people baptized.
"It went great today," said Andy Wagoner, a Deacon at the church. "We could ask for anything better. Great support and a lot of folks that we haven't seen in a long time here today. Hopefully that will continue to grow."
"We had a feeling once we were able to get out of the gymnasium, get in our own place that we would feel really good about how things went," said Hall. "People are on the verge of revival, and we just saw it today."
"It was everything we'd hoped it would be," said Isenberg.
"On this parcel of property, on this land, in this place, this could be your new home," said Hall to the congregation.
To introduce the new building to the public, an open house will be held next Sunday, July 19, from 2:30-4:30pm.
To this day, the arson fire at the church remains unsolved.
