Heating Assistance

If you can't afford to heat your home or need a little assistance, one area agency is letting residence know they are here to help.

Community Action of Southern Kentucky began its crisis portion of the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program. This program assists people who are unable to fully meet their heating bills.

Those with Community Action say demand hasn't been as high this year because energy costs haven't gone up as much this year as last.

Plus, the warmer temperatures we've experienced have helped keep costs low.

However, with colder temperatures in sight and since we just finished the holiday season, the need is beginning to increase.

"Holiday bills come at the same time and that puts a tremendous bind on people that are already working on tight budgets," said Cheryl Allen, the executive director of Community Action of Southern Kentucky.

Community Action said it will continue to offer assistance until the money runs out.

To apply for assistance, Community Action asks that you bring your disconnect or eviction notice, proof of the previous month's income for everyone in the household, and a social security card or a legal document with the social security number, for everyone in the household.
