Beware of Latest Mail Scam

Attorney General Greg Stumbo is warning consumers of the latest mail scam.

The Consumer Loyalty Rewards Program involves checks and notifications mailed to consumers. The letter tells consumers previous purchases made at popular retail outlets like Wal-Mart or Kroger have qualified them for a “prize pool” in the amount of $36,000 or more.

The mailing is from Reckitt Point of Sales Systems of New York and Mega Win Promotional Prizes of Canada.

The letter includes what appears to be a valid check for more than $3,000 to cover “processing fees” prior to receiving the “prize pool.”

The consumer is instructed to call a number and speak with a claim processing representative. The representative tells them to deposit the check into their bank account and wire the processing fees to Canada to receive their prize.

Stumbo tells consumers to beware, the check is counterfeit and any money you send is gone. He said you should not call the number or deposit the check.
