It has been two weeks but Adventures in Kentucky is back with part two of Brandon’s Big South Fork camping trip.

Previously in the park, Brandon and friends had hiked through the beautiful scenery but daylight was quickly fading. Tonight we follow Brandon Lokits through the park at Big South Fork.

As told by Brandon:
After miles of hiking, we were exhausted. The trails in the Big South Fork are beautiful but long.

At our trail’s end, we find ourselves on top of a tall bluff overlooking the Cumberland River. After a bit of discussion, we decide that the fastest way to camp is to take a bit of a shortcut. The first step in the short cut is a ninety-foot repel and for the big drop, we pulled out a new addition to our adventures.

We have the camera that I have been using for a lot of my adventures and a new helmet. Put the two together and we’ve got a helmet-cam. So, we’re going to use the helmet-cam for the first time on this repel.

Other than the slip at the top, the descent was perfect. Still, as each one of us made our way down, it got closer to nightfall.

At the bottom, we pack up our rope and gear and prepare to make our way to the river. There is no trail through the brush and trees so we just make our own. It wasn’t until we reached the river that we were sure we could cross without getting soaked.

I decided to keep my boots dry and cross barefoot. We all made it across but we were wet, cold and extremely hungry.
