Soldier Sentenced

A 101st Airborne Division soldier will spend nine months in confinement, in connection with the deaths of Iraqi detainees.

Juston R. Graber pled guilty today, Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007, to aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon. He was charged with attempted premeditated murder, conspiracy to commit premeditated murder and premeditated murder.

The judge, Colonel Theodore Dixon, accepted a plea deal in which prosecutors dropped those charges in exchange for a guilty plea to the lesser offense. Under the plea agreement, Graber’s rank was reduced from Specialist to Private.

The 21-year-old is accused along with three others, of killing detainees during a raid last May, of a suspected Al-Qaeda stronghold.

They are also accused of attempting to deceive investigators by saying the detainees were fleeing when they were shot. The other three soldiers are awaiting courts martial.
