UK Research Offers New Insight

There’s good news for cancer patients after a study identifies a gene in bone marrow.

The University of Kentucky study has only been done on mice but the research determined that the more of a gene called “latexin” the mice have in their bone marrow, the fewer beneficial stem cells there are in the marrow.

The lead researcher said if doctors can find ways to reduce the gene, they would prevent its effects, giving cancer patients more stem cells.
