A Bowling Green man will go to trial after the murder of his infant daughter. Police say 21-year-old Jeffery Peters’ trial date is schedule for June 26, 2007, in Warren Circuit Court.
Police say Peters became frustrated with the infant’s crying April 11, 2006. He shook her and threw her into a couch at his residence. The police report said Peters told investigators the two-month-old baby fell from the couch while he was outside trying to install a car seat. Doctors determined her injuries could not have been caused by a fall.
The child was transferred to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she died on April 17, 2006.
Another U.S. soldier has reached a plea agreement in the case of raping a 14-year-old Iraqi girl and killing her and her family.
Sergeant Paul Cortez is one of five soldiers from Fort Campbell, charged in the case. Cortez’s attorney said his client is expected to plead guilty to rape and premeditated murder during a hearing next month. Cortez will no longer face the death penalty.
