Area Health Depts. Recognized

Two South Central Kentucky health departments receive recognition for their achievement in emergency preparedness.

Both the Barren River District Health Department and the Monroe County Health Department were recognized for the award. Both health departments have met all of the National Association of County and City Health Officials’ “Project Public Health Ready” requirements.

Only seven health departments and regional partnerships received this national award for being ready to face bioterrorism events, new epidemics, natural disasters and other public health emergencies.

The achievement demonstrates excellence in three areas: planning for emergency preparedness, developing a competent workforce and conducting exercises that simulate emergencies and give communities a chance to practice and evaluate their response.
