Spelling Bee Looks for Teams

Spelling bees aren’t just for grade schoolers anymore. Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2007, is the kickoff for Community Education’s Spell-A-Bration.

This will be the second year the adult spelling bee will be held. Today, a spelling “study guide” was revealed to several of the teams who will compete. Spell-A-Bration is a fundraiser for Community Education.

“It does fit in with our mission of lifelong learning; a spelling bee fits in with that very nicely and we want to continue to provide programming, especially in our adult enrichment classes, before and after school programming for children, basically child care for working parents to keep that at a reasonable cost for those folks,” said Debi Wade Jordan, executive director of Bowling Green-Warren County Community Education.

Eighteen teams competed last year and Jordan said she hopes at least 20 will participate this year.

If you want to sign up for Spell-A-Bration, there’s still time! To become a team you must have three team members and an alternate who doubles as a coach. A sponsorship fee of $300 is also required.

The deadline to sign up is Feb. 16, 2007. Spell-A-Bration will be held on Feb. 27, 2007 at Knights of Columbus Hall and for more information contact Community Education at 270-842-4281 or visit our community calendar by clicking here.
