Several schools in South Central Kentucky are reporting that at least ten percent of their students are calling in sick all due to the flu. These high absence numbers have many superintendents questioning whether they need to cancel school.

Most school districts do not have a certain cut-off point where they will close school. But 85 percent seems to be the rate when superintendents start thinking about whether it's worth it to keep school in session.

Most superintendents say they are weighing two options: cost and education. The quality of education can suffer if too many students are absent. Also for every student that does not attend school, the district loses money.
