Students at the University of Kentucky will be paying more for their education next year.
The Board of Trustees approved a nine percent tuition increase for in-state students and a lower increase for out of state students.
President Lee Todd said the hike is necessary to help put the university into top-20 research institution status by the year 2010.
Todd also announced that around 1,500 students will receive new scholarships in the fall. The initiative will cost $2 million for next year.
