Kentucky is seeing a decrease in the number of unemployed.
The December 2006 jobless rate was more than one point below the rate in 2005, which was six-and-a-half percent. The most recent rate of more than five percent equaled the lowest we have seen in more than two years.
Kentucky was one of 38 states that had a lower unemployment rate. However, Kentucky was also one of 21 states that reported unemployment rates above the U.S. average of four-and-a-half percent.
The Professional and Business Industries showed the most growth. While, manufacturing industries recorded the least growth, actually losing 800 jobs in December 2006.
