While several schools in the area have not closed their doors due to the flu many still have high absence numbers.
In fact, Bowling Green Independent School has an 88 percent attendance rate. Bowling Green Junior High has an even lower rate with 84 percent of their students attending school.
School nurse Melissa Russell says she has seen about 75 students a day wanting to go home early. The office phone has been ringing off the hook with parents calling to check on their children.
The school has also been using hand sanitizers in the cafeteria and computer rooms. Russell says before she sends a student home she talks with the parent.
