Children First: Playground Safety

Wednesday is a big day for many Warren County students. It's the first day of school! Some may be excited while others are dreading the first day. Either way most students will be looking forward to recess when they hit the playground.

Donte Hyman, a second grader at Parket-Bennett, loves the monkey bars. But what he doesn't know is that while he is playing the school system is watching. Joe Tinius, assistant superintendent of Bowling Green schools, says custodians check the playgrounds daily for safety. They also add mulch twice a year to provide padding in case of the occasional trip or fall.

Tinus says the key to a safe playground is adult supervision. He also recommends that parents alert school officials if they notice something broken on the playground or a lack of mulch.
