A deadly over-night fire in Nelson County claims ten lives.
Nine bodies were found in a one-story brick home in Bardstown. The Nelson County coroner said one died at a hospital. There are two survivors recovering at hospitals.
The bodies of the ten people will be taken to Louisville for autopsies and toxicology tests. Authorities say it will be a couple of days before the victims are identified but the Nelson County Emergency Services said six of the ten victims were children.
“It’s just a tragic day for our community, for the families involved. Bardstown is not a very large city ... Seems like everybody knows somebody in somebody else’s family. It’s just a tragic day,” Bardstown Fire Chief Anthony Mattingly said.
The cause of the fire has not been determined. Deputy State Fire Marshal Rob Goodswin said the fire was Kentucky’s deadliest structure fire since 1977.
