Three Knoxville firefighters are in The University of Tennessee Medical Center for burns from an overnight fire.
The fire initially broke out around one-this morning in one of five adjacent warehouses downtown Knoxville, Tn. Upon arrival the Knoxville Fire Department said the building was a total loss.
"It was going top to bottom, front to back, side to side," said Darrell Whitake, Knoxville fire captain.
That fire was brought under control within a few hours. A few hours later another building became involved in the blaze causing three firefighters to climb down a hose to make an escape. Treatment for first, second and third degrees is underway.
According to WBKO's sister station in Knoxville, WVLT, the abandoned and rapidly deteriorating McClung Warehouses have been a subject of controversy for the past several years. The Knoxville Fire Department suspects the buildings were under construction after seeing machinery sitting in front of the destroyed buildings.
