New Bill Would Boost DARE and Crime Stoppers

One of our state legislators is proposing a law that would give a financial boost to Crime Stoppers, as well as the DARE program, or Drug Abuse Resistance Education.

The bill has been pre-filed by State Senator David Boswell of Daviess County, and was introduced to the senate last week. If passed, the bill would amend law regarding probation and conditional discharge, to allow judges to levy a fine of $250 on convicted criminals, money that would be used to build up area DARE programs and Crime Stoppers.

The bill was first introduced last year while it passed the Senate and House, it got stalled and was not made into law.
