Sheriff's offices in smaller rural counties across the South Central Kentucky region are struggling to retain trained officers, and the problem is beginning to threaten public safety.
Sheriff's offices in Allen, Logan, Metcalfe, and Edmonson counties are all operating at levels well below their norm. Fiscal courts and Judge Executives say they will have to either raise taxes or cut other programs to try and retain newly hired officers.
