Lake Level Not to be Lowered

All eyes continue to be on Lake Cumberland and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is clarifying it isn’t lowering the level of the lake anymore.

The Army Corps of Engineers has started a $309 million project to repair Wolf Creek Dam. They say the level will only be lowered another 30 feet if early work on it isn’t effective. Lowering the level anymore could shut down the East Kentucky Power Cooperative’s coal-fire plant. Also, it would put water intakes, serving 200,000 people, out of reach.

The Corps said they will continue to evaluate the appropriate lake level based on dam conditions and Lake Cumberland will stay at its current depth of 680 feet.
