Two Glasgow Principals Suspended

Two principals are suspended with pay pending a hacking investigation into a personal cell phone.

Glasgow High School principal Kelly Bell and Glasgow Middle School principal Randy Wilkinson are both suspended until an independent investigation is over.

The issue began last Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007, when Bell told Glasgow Independent School Superintendent Fred Carter that someone had hacked into her personal cell phone.

A few days later students from both the middle and high schools were passing around voice mails that apparently came from her phone.

One student sent Carter and other school personnel an e-mail on Tuesday saying the voice mails contained "inappropriate behavior."

The email stated that some of the messages were of a humorous nature while the others had a more romantic bent.

Carter said the school as well as Glasgow Police are conducting independent investigations to determine three things ...

  • Did a student hack into the phone and alter the voice mails?

  • Did the principals falsely accuse students of a crime?

  • Are these administrators guilty of inappropriate behavior?

"I think its been a wake-up call to every administrator regarding relationships with other administrators. A wake-up call to everyone who has a cell phone about changing that security code," Carter said.

Wilkinson has worked for the Glasgow school system for the last 22 years and has spent seven of those years as principal of the middle school.

This is Bell's first year as principal at GHS.
