Three Fort Campbell soldiers received one of the Army’s highest honors Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007. They were honored during a ceremony for more than 200 1st Battalion soldiers who served in Iraq.
Specialist Jose Alvarez, Private First Class Greg Pushkin and Sergeant Jeremy Wilzcek received a Silver Star awarded for “gallantry in action.”
Sergeant Michael Row credits Pushkin and Wilzcek for saving his life during an ambush in Iraq.
“I feel honored to be recognized but there’s a lot of people that are doing the same exact thing that’s out there right now,” Wilzcek said.
Besides the three Silver Stars, 15 soldiers received Bronze Stars, 97 were awarded Army Commendation Medals and 86 received Purple Hearts for their service in Iraq.
