Cave City Phone Abuse

A Cave City city employee's dialing dating and pyschic phone lines got the city-issued cell phones taken away from 11 workers in south-central Kentucky.

Cave City officials provided cell phones to seven members of the police department, the city clerk, the fire chief, the mayor and the maintenance supervisor.

Cave City Mayor Bob Hunt says he allowed police officers and the fire chief to use the phones at their discretion.

Officials became suspicious when council members found numerous 800 numbers on phone bills between 2003 and 2005 from the cell phones, which are paid for by Cave City residents' taxes.

Psychic and dating phone lines were called from one cell phone between 2003 and 2005, according to phone records obtained by the newspaper.

But no one's saying who made the calls. The person who used this phone was reprimanded and put on probation for 60 days, according to Hunt. The calls to these phone numbers stopped after July 2005, according to the phone records.
