A newborn baby is in the hospital after being abandoned on a doorstep in Franklin Monday morning, Feb. 26, 2007.
The child was found in a shoebox on the doorstep of an empty duplex apartment at 1088 Bowling Green Road.
The Simpson County Sheriff's Department said two children who live in the adjoining apartments were playing outside a little after 11 a.m. this morning when they noticed a shoebox on the porch next door.
When they saw the box move and saw a baby inside, they told their parents.
The family is Hispanic and doesn't speak English, so a family friend helped them transport the 5 lb, 8 ounce little boy to Franklin's Medical Center.
"At arrival at the hospital, the infant was in good health. It had the umbilical cord cut, but not tied. It had fluid loss which caused it core temperature to be 85 degrees," said Mike Rigg, Simpson County Sheriff's Department Captain.
The newborn boy is now at The Medical Center in Bowling Green.
Captain Rigg said the Sheriff's Department currently has no leads in the case.
