A Franklin child is recovering after surgery to remove his trache-ostomy. Three-year-old Gary Jones was born nearly 15 weeks premature. He weighed just one pound and 14 ounces.
Gary's throat was so damaged from pulling out his ventilator that he underwent a tracheostomy when he was just a few months old.
A tracheostomy is a surgical incision in the windpipe. Gary underwent a five hour surgery last week at Cincinnati Children's Hospital to remove the trach.
Gary's mother said the surgery was a success and he' s expected to return home in about three weeks.
