Plans for Redevelopment Roll Forward

The process for downtown redevelopment in Bowling Green continues to move forward.

At Tuesday's city commission meeting, the board voted unanimously to officially accept two million dollars in grant money for downtown redevelopment. The money was initially awarded to the city back in 2003.

One million dollars was accepted for the Lee Square Housing Project, and one million was accepted for phase two of the downtown revitalization project, and adopting plans for anti-displacement and relocation assistance for business owners and residents.

The mayor as well as some city officials feel there has been some negative publicity concerning the project, because some people are upset that the business owners and residents will have to move.

Mayor Sandy Jones says the whole process will be thorough and conscientious and all those who will be relocated will have ample opportunity for negotiation as they find a new location that is suitable to them.
