United Parcel Service and Teamsters union negotiators have reached a tentative agreement on a national contract.
The agreement last night averted the threat of a strike when the current contract expires July 31.
Teamsters Local 89 represents about 8,600 UPS workers in the Louisville area.
UPS, headquartered in Atlanta, operates its primary U.S. Air sorting hub in Louisville.
The contract proposal must be approved by rank-and-file members, 230,000 workers nationwide. They should receive ballots in about two weeks.
