In Marion, Kentucky there were cheers and a few tears of joy as 70 National Guard troops celebrated their homecoming, 11 months to the day after Sept. 11.
The soldiers weren't involved in a combat situation, but that didn't make their mission any less dangerous. They protected the base in Germany and helped the troops already stationed there.
Captain Michael Abell, is especially proud of his troops, after an experience where others were hiding from the rain and the cold, while his men remained stationed at their posts.
The event ended with a release of red, white, and blue balloons into the sky.
