Pine beetles infest and kill pine trees. Kentucky Forestry officials say the latest infestation started in 1999, and it's been the worst on record. The pine beetles can cause trees to turn a reddish-brown color and eventually die.
All the dead trees can cause a fire danger in forests. Kentucky Forestry officials say they've had reports of pine beetles as far west as the Pennyrile Forest, but experts at the Warren County
Ag. Extension Office says they have had no reports of pine beetles in Warren County.
