In Frankfort, Kentucky lawmakers are considering whether unmarried people or non family members should be able to take advantage of health insurance benefits. Senate Bill 152 was considered in a House Committee today, Tuesday, March 6, 2007.
The bill would let state institutions offer health insurance plans to only an employee’s spouse or children. Unmarried partners or couples wouldn’t be allowed to take advantage of so-called family plans.
The bill defines what a “family member” is. A “no” vote was taken in the House Committee today. Some perceive that as killing the bill.
Committee Chairman Tom Burch said he hasn’t made up his mind regarding how he will vote and didn’t rule out a committee vote in the future.
