By a unanimous vote on Tuesday afternoon, the Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center's (SKYPAC) Board elected to change the proposed location for their project.
The SKYPAC Board currently owns land adjoining Western's campus near the top of the hill on Center Street, but will now look to build the Performing Arts Center within a 10 block area labeled the "Downtown Redevelopment District."
As part of that move, architectural consultants will now spend 2-3 months selecting an ideal site within the redevelopment area for SKYPAC, while board members and Board Chairman Rick McCue negotiate a land and cash swap with WKU.
The SKYPAC board is looking to exchange/sell their campus property for real estate Western owns in the downtown area, plus cash. McCue says it will take several months before any final decisions are reached, but says the board looks forward to the chance to become a key economic stimulus for the redevelopment project.
