A Hopkinsville senator plans to lead a group of farmers from the Bluegrass state to Canada to study industrial hemp farming.
Kentucky lawmaker Joey Pendleton has introduced a bill for the 2010 session to legalize industrial hemp in the state as a cash crop and a source for alternative fuels.
Pendleton tells the Lexington Herald-Leader that the time is right to cash in on hemp, since the plant is already legal for research purposes in Kentucky.
Because of current federal law, all hemp included in products sold in the United States must be imported.
