An area city is looking to recruit businesses, especially with the loss of a prominent store on the downtown square. Long time clothing store, Mallory's in Elkton, is closing. Residents say the face of the downtown square will never look the same.
Mayor Walton says the city recently hired a new economic development officer to bring in more businesses. He says the city is having a hard time with recruitment though with a lower-than-average unemployment rate.
The mayor also says the city never fully recovered when the factory, Ardco, closed leaving more than three hundred people without jobs. City leaders say when big companies like Ardco closes, it affects even small stores like Mallory's. Mallory's will be closing sometime in May, and storeowners don't know how the empty space will be used.
