In an effort to provide more manpower and muscle behind Kentucky's Sex Offender Registry, the Bowling Green Police Department is stepping up its enforcement and tracking efforts.

Registered offenders are tracked by the state through mailings, which are supposed to be filled out and returned by the offender once a year (for 10-year registrants) or four times a year (for lifetime registrants).

However, Officer David Dunn says the system needs manpower and on-the-ground resources to back up the mailings. To that end, the BGPD is double checking the known addresses of registered offenders in Bowling Green, and those efforts have already netted two indictments against registered offenders who were not where they were believed to be.

A conviction on charges of evading the sex offender registry is a Class D felony, punishable by a minimum of one year in prison.
