FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- U.S. Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell says nearly $400 million in federal funding has been approved to help pay for Kentucky projects.

According to a news release from McConnell's office, the U.S. Senate has approved $387 million in funding for Kentucky as part of the 2010 Energy and Water Development Appropriations bill.

Lawmakers approved $166.6 million in funding for the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant, $116 million for Wolf Creek Dam repairs, $101.5 million for Olmstead Lock and Dam upgrades and $945,000 for construction at the Kentucky Lock and Dam. It also includes $2 million for research on energy independence at the University of Louisville.

The measure has passed both chambers and is waiting consideration from President Barack Obama.
