Psychological Impact of Truancy

By  |

Truancy is often the first indicator that a child is headed down the wrong path. Studies have shown that three-fourths of incarcerated criminals in the United States were habitual truants during their school years.

Experts say it isn't just a problem for parents, and it isn't just a problem for school, but something the entire community should work together on. They also say it could get worse if it isn't dealt with at an early stage.

Dr. Bill Pfohl, says, "This is kind of the gateway into an illegal group. People are out there, unsupervised, hanging around with friends their parents might not know who they are. It puts them at very high risk for criminal activity as well as anti-social behavior."

If your child is having trouble going to school, contact the school's guidance counselor immediately.
