Police said Ronnie Reece was trying to rob the Burger King on Morgantown Road at 6:30 a.m. Friday when employees were able to escape the building and flag down a Bowling Green police officer
Western Hills Motel resident Goran Djuric was sleeping peacefully when he heard the commotion next door.
“The gunshots woke me up, two gunshots and I just heard the cop yell out ‘stop!’ By the time I got to the window to see what was going on I just saw the cop take off,” Djuric said.
According to police, Ronnie Reece walked into the restaurant, showed his gun to employees and started herding them to the back of the building. Employees then escaped through a back door where they flagged down a Bowling Green police officer who happened to be driving by.
Officer Matt Davis saw Reece leaving Burger King and confronted him.
“The subject brandished a weapon, told the officer he would shoot. The officer did fire two rounds, hitting the subject.”
Reece then ran through Holly Mobile Home Park and into the woods where he fell off a 50-foot cliff.
He was pronounced dead at the Medical Center.
Reece’s family is left with a big question: Why would Ronnie do this?
“He had been working every day. We had been up there bricking at Nation’s Medicines. He was getting his life together. It was pay-day,” and Reece’s brother has only one request.
“I just want the investigation to be done fairly from both sides. We’ve lost a brother and we have to accept that,”
The investigation continues.
