March 25, 2007, was the first National Medal of Honor Day.
Kentuckians Ernie West of Greenup County, Gary Littrell of Henderson County and Don Jenkins of Butler County are all being honored for their heroism and sacrifice.
Staff Sergeant Jenkins distinguished himself in 1969 when his company came under heavy fire and he helped his fellow soldiers defeat the enemy.
This month Congress designated that National Medal of Honor Day will be held on March 25th every year.
