The short session of the General Assembly is officially over. For the past two days lawmakers were in Frankfort, Ky., trying to deal with a number of unresolved legislative issues.
One was funding for new safety measures for child welfare workers. The General Assembly gave its final approval to the Boni Bill yesterday, Tuesday, March 27, 2007.
The bill is named in honor of slain social worker, Boni Frederick. Frederick was killed in Henderson, Ky., last year when she took a 10-month-old boy to visit his mother. The baby’s mother and her boyfriend have pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, kidnapping, robbery and theft in the case. The baby was found safe and returned to foster care.
Under the bill visits between birth parents and abused or neglected children will take place in secure locations.
