Houchens Industries Sells Commonwealth Brands

Houchens Industries officially sells the nation's fourth largest cigarette company to Imperial Tobacco Group.

Houchens Industries is selling 100 percent of its Commonwealth Brands Incorporated stock to Imperial Tobacco Group.

The deal is estimated at almost $2 billion.

Commonwealth Brands was bought by Houchens Industries in 2001. Their headquarters are expected to remain in Bowling Green.

Houchens Industries said the sale will create great capital gains for share holders and will allow new business opportunities.
