When you're looking to boost your immune system, you may start thinking about vitamins.
While overall sales have not risen at Great Earth Vitamins during the economic slump, those at the store say they have seen more sales this year when it comes to cold and flu season.
"Our business, we've seen more people coming in as far as wanting to boost the immune system, antiviral, and antibacterial," said Gail Robinson, Manager of Great Earth Vitamins.
Robinson says they've really seen the increase since the beginning of school, as people are trying more and more ways to steer clear of illnesses.
"Doctors may say take some vitamin C, but after vitamin C, it's left up to the consumer themselves to come in and ask us what may help prevent or boost the immune system," said Robinson
H1N1 seems to have many coming into her store.
"Say someone in their office has been diagnosed with it," said Robinson. "Now they come in contact. They rush in, 'What can I take to prevent?' I don't necessarily have anything to prevent, but I do have stuff to rebuild."
There are many ways to help keep germs away.
"Wash your hands," said Robinson. "Cover your mouth when you sneeze."
Plus Robinson uses antibacterial since she deals with money all day, but she isn't only the manager of Great Earth Vitamins.
She's also a mother.
"I have a three-year-old, and I'm constantly on him," said Robinson. "Sneeze into your elbow or cough into your elbow so that you don't have hand on hand contact."
By taking care of her family, Robinson understands many customers hope to find things that can be helpful for their entire family.
"I can't necessarily diagnose this is going to help with Swine Flu," said Robinson. "All I can do is give suggestions. It has shown to help boost the immune."
Owners and managers of stores like Robinson's have special training when it comes to what they sell.
Robinson says even natural drugs can be dangerous, so always ask someone for help before making a purchase.
