Ky. Representatives Try to Set Deadline

Kentucky’s delegation to the U.S. Congress chooses sides on funding combat troops in Iraq and their withdrawal.

Democrat Representative John Yarmuth said he supports setting a deadline to remove U.S. combat troops from Iraq, but opposes efforts by Congress to eliminate money for the war in its wrangling with President Bush.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid recently warned he would try to cut off funding for combat operations if Bush vetoes Congress’ proposal to set a deadline to end combat.

Kentucky’s other Democratic Representative Ben Chandler voted for the House Spending Bill that would bring combat troops home from Iraq by September 1, 2007.

Kentucky’s four Republican congressmen, Geoff Davis, Ron Lewis, Hal Rogers and Ed Whitfield all voted against the legislation.
