It's been a year of below-average temperatures and above-average precipitation.
From crippling ice storms and tornadoes to one of the coldest summer months in history and heavy rainfall, South Central Kentucky has seen its fair share of odd weather for 2009.
While these weather events may seem unusual from a meteorological standpoint our environment has been giving us tell-tale signs for some time, almost as a warning that this year would be far from average.
As 2009 comes to a close this year is on track to become one of the wettest on record for South Central Kentucky.
While El Nino has a history of bringing drier winter weather to the region some forecasts are predicting this winter will be similar to that of 2004 and 2005 when a potent winter storm brought snow, rain, and ice to the area during Christmas.
