Thousands of acres in eastern Kentucky are destroyed because of forest fires.

Most of the fires started over the weekend, but dozens of blazes are still burning and many appear to be intentionally set.

Pike County Forest Ranger Cody Evans tells us 15-hundred acres have burned in the Big Sandy Region, while 200 acres burned in one day in Shelbiana.

"With leaves falling off the trees right now, it's just putting more fuel on the ground," Evans says.

Now, the search is on for suspects.

"We actually spotted an arsonist from our airplane on a four-wheeler lighting a fire, just haven't been able to catch them yet," says District Forester Tad Nolin.
:
If they catch whoever is setting the fires, they will face charges.

If you have any information on who deliberately set the fires please call 1-800-27-ARSON.
