One bank in Bowling Green is full of green with money and eco-friendly features. The Service One Credit Union finally had its grand-opening, and the community came to check out all the unique green features.

It may just look like an ordinary bank drive-thru, but if you take a closer look, you'll see plants on the roof! That's just one of the favorite features that's all the buzz at the grand opening of the Service One Credit Union's green building. And it's Leah Eckley's favorite green feature too. The executive vice president says the plants soak up rain, reducing runoff. It also increases roof insulation--and with little maintenance."We just have to look at it every now and then," says Eckley "pick out the weeds, it doesn't have to be mowed."

Montie Brown, the general contractor for the project says his favorite part of the building is the windows. He says they're equivalent to a 6 inch wall, but they're translucent enough to let natural light in and stay cool to the touch.
"On the hottest day we had this year, around 98 degrees, you could put your hand on the glass and it's still cool on the inside of the building," said Brown. Another popular feature is the salvaged wood from an old mill which can be seen throughout the building.

SOCU is LEED certified, which stands for leadership in energy and environmental design. They're striving to reach the platinum LEED certification and with all the green features, including high efficiency fluorescent lights, and even green furniture and floors, they hope to reach that platinum level. "It takes a while to get that, and you turn in all of the things you've done, and you acquire points, and there's certain levels, and platinum is the highest leed level," said Eckley.

The new green addition will be used for many things, there's a break room and a training room for employees. It will also be used for events for the community.
