"Rachel's Challenge" stops at Local Elementary

"Rachel said people will never know how far a little kindness can go," says program presenter and Scott family friend Derek Kilgore.

Rachel believed little acts of kindness can have a big impact on someone's life, and she wrote about it more than 10-years ago in what would be the final thoughts in her diary.

Those words would go onto touch the lives of so many across the world.

Eighth grade students at Chandler's Elementary in Logan County agree.

"If one person can start a chain reaction, than it can change millions of peoples' lives," says Savanna Woodall.

"I think that every time someone comes up with something like this, to help change people and make people better, it's always the best," says Will Cunningham.

"To make people better, that they understand people can be nice. It's basically giving us permission to be nice to people," Rachyl Miller adds.

For one student, the impact of what Rachel stood for allowed her to forgive her mother's passing and cherish the time they spent together.

"So, the story is powerful and very motivating as well," says Kilgore.

As today's assembly drew to a close, students took time to reflect on the seventeen year-old's life, as well as those of loved-ones lost within their own lifetimes.

"If we had all followed her challenge before anything had happened, then she could still be here today," eighth grader Savanna Woodall adds.

For Kilgore, Rachel's Challenge can help those searching for purpose and meaning in their own life.
