The First Lady of Kentucky, Jane Beshear, visits Bowling Green today for the "Graduate Kentucky" program.
The state-wide plan hopes to tackle the high-school dropout problem in kentucky.
Students, parents, educators, and community leaders attended the summit at Greenwood High School.
Mrs. Beshear says staying in school not only affects the future of the student, but the state of Kentucky as well.
"It's important for them to realize their potential but it's also important to the commonwealth. Dropouts create issues with loss of revenue. They're not paying taxes, they're usually not homeowners, they usually have health issues, and many times end up as part of our correctional problems"
The Bowling Green summit is the first of 6 regional summits across Kentucky.
The "Graduate Kentucky" initiative was started by Governor Beshear and his wife.
