A judge has ruled the son of a state lawmaker must stay in prison while his case is appealed.
Harrison Yonts, son of State Representative Brent Yonts of Greenville, Ky., was convicted of killing a 62-year-old pedestrian while driving drunk in 2005.
Yonts requested to be released on bail while the Kentucky Supreme Court reviews his case.
Calloway County Circuit Judge Dennis Foust turned down the request on April 19, 2007. Foust said Yonts has no right to bail since he’s already been convicted.
Yonts was sentenced to 20 years in prison and must serve 17 years before being eligible for parole.
